Beneath the Shattered Sky

On 25 April 2015, Nepal was struck by a devastating earthquake. A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit with its epicenter in Gorkha. Within seconds, centuries-old structures collapsed, homes crumbled, and entire neighborhoods turned into fields of rubble. Walking through the streets of Kathmandu, it felt as if the city had lost its own identity. The iconic Dharahara tower, once a symbol of pride, had fallen into dust and broken brick. The air was thick with dust and grief. There were cries for help, stunned silence, and the unbearable weight of loss. Fear, shock, and disbelief filled the atmosphere — yet alongside them stood resilience. Strangers formed human chains to clear rubble. Monks prayed in courtyards covered in grey dust. Families spent nights under plastic sheets, children staring into an uncertain future. Aftershocks continued, a constant reminder that the ground was no longer stable. Nights passed under the open sky. Hospitals overflowed. Historic heritage sites stood shattered, silent witnesses to a nation in pain. This was not only a story of destruction; it was a story of endurance and human dignity. While the world counted the dead in numbers, what remained were faces, names, and unfinished stories.
