The death of Bangladeshi cinema

Cinema hall authorities often complain about facing continuous losses in the business. Earlier, renowned cinema halls -- Purnima and Shyamoli -- located in the capital Dhaka had been shut down due to the slump of business. Hundreds of theatres have been demolished all over the country in the past few years, in order to accommodate commercial spaces.

Razmoni cinema hall, a famous celluloid screen of the capital Dhaka, was established in the ’80s. It started the business with the film Lalu Bhulu, and last displayed Shakib Khan’s Nolok.

“Cinema industry of the country is currently passing through a crisis period. Facing continuous loss from last several years, we cannot bear the expenses anymore, and as the situation has no sign of improvement. Now it’s time to shutdown” - Shahidullah, the in-charge of the Rajmoni and Rajia cinema hall.
